I've been living in Valparaíso for 27 years already and this city doesn't ever stop surprising me. It's like everyday I am a tourist. Don't get me wrong though. This is great and I am thankful that I've been able to experience the wonders of Valparaiso.
I was born and raised in Valparaiso, Chile. When I was a little girl I thought much of this place. My house is in Viña del Mar, 10 miles from Valparaíso. But I studied in Valparaíso and since then, I fell utterly in love with this city.
Valparaiso is the principal port, the Jewel of the Pacific, as people like to call it. I wasn’t familiar with all of this at first but in a little time the people, places, hills, lights and the sea captured me.
Valparaíso is a World Heritage site. It is rich in history. I’m sure that the architecture of the houses hanging from the hills, overlooking the sea, is something that is unique and breathtaking.
The people and history are other thing. Every Valparaíso corner has someone who makes the place unique. Vagabonds, dogs, people who live their entire life in the same hill. This is unique!.
Every weekend the hills are full of tourists. They visit Pablo Neruda’s house, sail in little boats into the bay and fall in love, like me, to this wonderful and magic place. And so I went with my Lomo cameras like a tourist to Lomograph the city I love.
