Canberra, Australia

The middle of Canberra has a lake with all of the most beautifully designed buildings around it, framed by mountains, with a fountain, the bell tour and the bridges going across the lake at two points. Canberra was a designed city in the early 1900. Designed by Architect Walter Burley Griffin.

The city is based on geometric shapes including the parliamentary triangle. In the middle of the city there is a lake which frames the city.

The lake, named after the Architect who designed the city, sits in the middle of the parliamentary triangle with the City and War memorial on one side and the Nation Library, Gallery, Portrait gallery and Parliament house on the other. In the middle of the lake sits two islands. One of the islands houses the modern National Museum, the other a bell tower. A fountain sits in between the two bridges.

The lake is amazing not only because it sits in the middle of the city, but because of the expansive lawns that surround it, which is rare in a country so often in drought. I enjoy photographing the lake because of the many elements. You can do architectural shots of the surrounding buildings and long exposure shots of the cars and reflections.
