Pulau Ketam, or The Crab Island (translated directly from the local name), is a small island located in the state of Selangor, Malaysia. The island’s buildings are elevated 3-5 feet from the swampland, including their houses, thus, the island has fascinating fishing village scenery.
The island’s villagers are mostly the Chinese, they live a simple and relaxing lifestyle. The villagers are very friendly to the island’s visitors as well. Bicycle are the only transportation on the island, there aren’t any vehicles nor motorcycles. The island’s buildings are elevated 3-5 feet from the swampland, including their houses, thus, the island has fascinating fishing village scenery. Besides that, the villagers had also preserved the traditional Chinese’s practice to hang a plaque above house’s door to specify their family’s surname and place of ancestry.
It’s advisable to start the journey to Pulau Ketam after lunch time from the jetty which takes around 45 minutes to reach the island. Once arrived, bicycles can be rented from the locals at a cheap fee to start exploring around the island, and of course start firing your shutters! Hours later, you may enjoy the beautiful view of dusk on the island. Not to mention the seafood on the island are very fresh and delicious! Especially the crabs!
