“Somewhere in La Mancha…” …there’s a village where the little old ladies dance all night long.

In a part of Spain where everything is flat, sits a tiny village on a small hill overlooking miles of golden fields, hidden archaeological ruins and endlessly spinning tumbleweed.
It’s a small place of about fifty or sixty beautiful white houses and very few permanent residents. The population rockets however whenever there’s a party and here there’s always a reason to celebrate. I first visited Villar de Cantos about five years ago. The whole village were having a party and I was invited. The party was to celebrate the introduction of electricity!

The food is Spain is very good, in the Province of Cuenca it’s even better and in Villar de Cantos it’s incredible! In whichever party you find yourself here, there will always be at least one gigantic paella pan on the go and usually another filled with rabbit stew.
Everyone takes part, from the grandparents to the grandchildren. But it’s the more mature ladies that really shine. They know all the dances and once they start…there’s no stopping them…ever.
