The Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, FL

The Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables opened in 1926. It's rich history saw it as the premier destination for heads of state and celebrities during the Jazz era and a hospital during WWII.

The Biltmore Hotel was finished in 1926 and quickly became a vacation spot for the famous and powerful. As their website says, “The Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Ginger Rogers, Judy Garland and Bing Crosby were frequent guests. In fact, everyone who was anyone – from politicians like President Franklin D. Roosevelt to notorious gangsters like Al Capone – stayed at the Biltmore.” The swimming pool, the largest in the continental US, once hosted Johnny Weissmuller as a swimming instructor.

During WWII, the hotel was converted into an army hospital and stayed that way until 1968. In 1983, it was renovated and reopened.

The hotel has been long rumored to be haunted, particularly the 13th floor where gangster Thomas “Fatty” Walsh was murdered in 1929.
