Paris; The City of Love and Lomography

The Eiffel Tower, the Sacre Coeur, the Champs Elysees. Three major tourist attractions in one city. Three fantastic locations in one of the most wonderful cities in the world.

Easter holidays and I certainly was excited to go somewhere. Armed and ready with a bag full of film and my cameras, I set off on a week-long holiday with my Dad to Paris. After a very early start in the day, making our way through the channel tunnel on the Eurostar, we had finally arrived. But this certainly wasn’t the Paris I was expecting. It was raining, incredibly wet and very cold indeed. Of course, this can sour anyone’s Easter plans, but we were both determined to make the week worthwhile, and after a few hours of rain, the sun came out and stayed for the rest of the week as we toured around the city.

As it was my very first time in Paris, my Dad was determined to hit all the major tourist spots first. We learnt, very early on in the week that in order to be successful with the numerous crowds, you definitely have to be there early and be very patient as you wait in line to enter certain attractions. This is especially apparent when visiting the Louvre as the museum is incredibly popular. But if you can’t stand still for too long, pull out your cameras and lomograph!

I managed to make our time waiting in lines and walking through crowds productive as I whipped out my Horizon 202, LC-A RL and newly purchased Diana Mini to photograph everything that I saw in the first 3 days of our stay; The Eiffel Tower, the Sacre Coeur and the Champs Elysees. And if lomographing the locations wasn’t enjoyable enough, the food, the music and the diverse people that I met who made Easter in Paris worthwhile!

One person I met while walking through Montmarte to the Sacre Coeur was so fascinated by the Horizon, that they even offered to buy it from me! Of course, I had to say no because my Horizon is my pride and joy but I certainly enjoyed my entire stay and I cannot wait to return to Paris again.

    Wow! Thank you everyone!

    For everyone wondering what film I used, all the horizon shots were with Kodak CN400 BW and all the L-CA shots were with Illford 100 with the ASA set to 200 to underexpose. The Diana mini pictures were with Ilford HP5 400.

    @vicuna no.21 is indeed my dad :)
