This village is considered one of the most beautiful ones in Quebec. During summer it attracts tourists but in winter remains a calm place…
French colons first settled Kamouraska during the 17th century, although the place was well known by the Native Americans. The name comes from one of the Amerindians languages, meaning “there where you can find marine eelgrass”. I think that this is a common feature in lots of places in Quebec: the names of the places come from Amerindian words and usually these short words have a long meaning (sounds almost like a joke).
The village has less than 1000 habitants, though in summer its populations multiply. Being claimed as one of the most beautiful villages in Quebec, this attracts lots of tourists. As is by the Saint-Lawrence River, it is a good spot for kayaking. Also, nearby there are some walls very appreciated for climbing. But in winter the town is mostly deserted.
Kamouraska has a beach… well, sort of. I do not think people would take long baths as even in summer the water is quite cold. And in winter taking a swim can be quite hard: not only the water is freaking cold, but frozen. Anyway, despite this, the beach makes a nice place to have a walk and enjoy of the sun in a cold day.
