Arc de Triomphe, Paris

It is the second largest triumphal arch in the whole world: Arc de triomphe it’s a very beautiful monument located in a place called Place de L'Étoile, in the end of the Champs-Elysées.

Arc de triomphe it’s a very beautiful monument located in a place called Place de L’Étoile, in the end of the Champs-Elysées. The arch was commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 and is engraved with names of generals who commanded the French troops during Napoleon’s regime. The triumphal arch is adorned with many reliefs, most of them commemorating the emperor’s battles.

Beneath the Arch is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and the eternal flame commemorating the dead people of the two world wars. It’s the place where on the Armistice Day (11th November) the President of the Republic lays a wreath and on 14 July, the French National Day begins a military parade down the Champs Elysées. Inside the Arch there is a small museum documenting its history and construction. It is the second largest triumphal arch in the whole world.

The top of the arch features a viewing platform from where you have great views of La Defense, the Champs-Elysées and the Sacré-Coeur, beautiful important and very well-known places in Paris. In the opposite direction at distance, in a perpendicular line is located the new arc: La Grande Arche de la Défense. As there is no elevator in the arch, be prepared to climb 234 steps if you want to visit it.

Thank you for the article :) but there are a couple of lifts inside the arch! I think they're reserved for people either handicapped or with some problems walking (i.e. aged people, or injured people). Thanks again!
