Balat an Old Side of Istanbul

Balat is an old Jewish district in Istanbul where kids are friendly and people hang their washed clothes on the streets.

Whenever we pass through the Golden Horn area, through Balat, I can’t stop getting the feeling that its a great spot for taking photos… This is probably because I love taking photos of old buildings but even the kids there greet you with a huge smile on their face and are ever ready to pose for the camera!

Balat is actually a Jewish districts with a Jewish High School and a few Synagogues. The Jewish Hospital is still open to accept patients on the other side of the road as well. But my favorite part of Balat is the old wooden houses and the fact that people still hang their washed clothes from on window to the other…

So if you want to get a feel of old Istanbul, just wander around the streets of Balat…
