Exceptional event of the winter season, “Days of Holidays” invites a wide public of both adults and children to the Grand Palais. For this occasion, the « Nef » has been specifically highlighted by François Austerlitz to dive into a magical atmosphere in the midst of fairground attractions: the big wheel, the 1900 carousel or the playground, “the world of children”, ghost train, bumper cars, …
François d’Austerlitz is a lighting designer since 25 years. He highlighted the Grand Palais especially for “Days of holidays” festivities. How to illuminate the Nef in an original way while clinging to the theme of the carnival and entertainment? How to make visible the metal structure of the Grand Palace as if it was lit nearby? François d’Austerlitz offers a “highlight” of the light structure of Nef through a string of incandescent lamps. Brilliant !
The fairground is at the heart of “Days of Holiday” : wooden horses, a slide and a Ferris wheel, respectively 14 and 33 meters high, “the outfielder”, the" salto mortale "… and food stands with pancakes, waffles, toffee apples, cotton candy …
Added to that, you can also see a small exhibit of the most representative pieces of decorative art that the Museum of Fairground Arts has extracted from its reserves. This exhibition traces over a century of nomad art who has experienced its peak around 1900. It recalls that the fairground art belongs to the decorative and entertainment arts and also appeal to both sculpture and painting.
And to make this perfect, each day some gypsy live music will add to this festive, cultural and historical atmosphere.
That‘s a really magical moment to live during the Xmas holidays, if you’re not lucky enough to leave Paris !
