Definitely, this a very MUST in your “bucket list”.
My girlfriend set up a little (huge) surprise for me. The reason: our second anniversary. She told me to drive in direction to Huamantla, Tlaxcala, to a hotel called Cuamanco. About two hours later (160 kilometers) we arrived and dinner was waiting for us. We spent a great evening at the hotel restaurant.
The next morning, the receptionist called to our room at 5:00 a.m. It was time to leave. A tour van took us to where this great experience was going about to start. Surrounded by hundreds of stars and nothing but frozen air, we realized that people started to inflate the hot air balloons. The amazing sound of the heaters and the sun rising made a beautiful mix. Inside the canister, the sound and the heat were much more exciting. We started to float over Huamantla and the sunlight was starting to let us see the beautiful landscape up there. In about an hour of flight, we could see some volcanoes (Popocatepetl, Iztaccíhuatl, Pico de Orizaba and the Malintzi) and great field extensions. As we arrived to the end of the trip, there was a prearranged champagne toast while we see how the balloon was being deflated. Afterward we went back to the hotel to have some breakfast and get our stuff ready for going back to Mexico City.
If you once visit Tlaxcala, don´t forget about this place. You will not be disappointed and neither your girl/boyfriend. Definitely, this a very must in your “bucket list”.
