A well-kept secret for a fun day out!
The river Aire is a major river (length 114 km) in Yorkshire, a historic county of northern England and the largest in the United Kingdom. But this article is not about a river nor a county. No sir. Just keep reading… :)
The idea behind the Airedale Greenway is that it provides a link between Leeds and the Yorkshire Dales by following, as far as possible, riverside paths. So far, three lovely towns are connected (Shipley, Bingley and Keighley) by this path – a “greenway” – and the route is surprisingly beautiful!
The Airedale Greenway is perfect to go walking, cycling, jogging, photographing and why not? having a picnic while watching the birds and the colourful boats go by!
Me and my friends love to go there! We take the train to Saltaire because the Airedale Greenway is right next to the station and we start walking until we’re tired! Sometimes we stop in one of the many grass fields by the riverside and just lay back and enjoy the sun (ok, this last bit we don’t do in the winter). I always thought that airedale is just the name of my mother's dogs... now I know where it comes from!
