Lister Park was crowned Britain's Best Park in 2006 and nominated for the Best Park in Europe!
Lister Park is located a mile from Bradford’s city centre. The park’s history began when the Bradford Corporation purchased the 22ha of former deer park in 1870 for £40,000 from Samuel Lister, a Bradford textile magnate, on the condition that the land should be used as a public park.
Special features include the opulent Cartwright Hall (museum and art gallery), botanical gardens, a beautiful lake, the Mughal Water Gardens and a children’s play area. Unfortunately, Cartwright Hall has been closed due to ceiling collapse (!) for almost one year and it will remain closed for at least a few more months.
You should try one of the rowing or pedal-boats on the newly restored boating lake – I know I did and it was lots of fun!
Facilities:
Car Park, Play Area, Multi Games Area, Bowls, Tennis, Lake/River, Boating, Cafe, Toilets, Flower Garden, Friends Group.
