Eminonu, One of My Favorite Parts of Istanbul

Eminonu is one of the oldest parts of Istanbul but it's still a main attraction.

Istanbul is a huge city but there are certain parts of the city that everyone crosses once in awhile. And one of those places is Eminonu. It is one of the oldest parts of the city and is full of life during the day time, especially if you are after some authentic shopping. You can find the Spice Bazaar, shops that sell food, fabric, beeds and even photography accessories.
If you are in the mood for a walk, I suggest you take the funicular from Taksim, then walk from the Galata Bridge to reach to Eminonu. Once you cross the bridge you are greeted by the Yeni Cami (the New Mosque) and the entrance of the Spice Bazaar. From there you can just stroll around the street which all house different types of shops. Each street houses a different type of good, like chocolate making accessories, cheeses, pets, flowers and a lot more.

My favorite path is the one that crosses the Main Post Office, The Isbank Museum (A museum that shows the history of one of the local banks) and lead to the photo accessory section where I get all my film and dark room goodies. Also, I like to just walk up the hill to Sultanahmet where most of the historic sights are located such as Topkapı Palace, Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosgue – all sights to see when visiting Istanbul.

So, I might be biased due to the fact that I go there every couple of weeks, but I strongly suggest everyone to visit Eminonu and the surrounding area.

Ha ! Galata's bridge and the fishermen, food shops near the Yeni Cami, dryied apricots, lokoums (I forgot the name of the ones made with pistacchios and pomegranata, wich are really divine) ! Your black and white pics shows very well the atmosphere of Beyolu.
