An amazing park with 4 different districts. If you plan to visit keep in mind that you may want to stay here forever!
So far, this is my favorite place in the world. It is hard to explain the feelings that I experienced while visiting this place. If I had to describe in one word my experience on this park, the word would be: intense. First of all, the place is huge! I haven’t been to the Grand Canyon yet, but some people who have seen both places have told me that Canyonlands cannot even be compared to any other place, and I believe them. The park is divided into 4 districts: The Island in the Sky, The Needles, the Maze and the rivers that divide the park.
The most accessible district is The Island in the Sky, which is a mesa with many short and long hiking trails along the rim of a huge canyon. One day is not even enough to see all of it. Visitors with 4-wheel-drives are allowed to visit the inside of the canyon. When you are standing on any of the scenic overlooks of the canyon your eye cannot even contain all of it, it is so immense that it gives the idea that the canyon never ends. It is the perfect place to just sit and stare for hours, and of course take many pictures! For anyone who wants to visit this place, something very important to remember is that to photograph the canyon, the sun has to be on the back, otherwise your pictures will come out completely overexposed. Since the canyon has overlooks both ways, one thing you can do is to shoot one part early in the morning when the sun is just coming up, and then shoot the rest when the sun is on the other side.
This part of the park also has many other places to explore, including many arches, buttes and an upheaval dome, which is a big intriguing rock formation. Nobody has been able to explain the cause of this dome and it still remains a mystery. Every single part of the park is an exciting adventure. Whatever district you visit on the park, this place will have a great effect on you and will leave you with memories that would last for a lifetime.
