Ahhh Beer. There is more to the Pinoy that your San Miguel Beer, ito ang beer!
I love beer. It is one of the simple pleasures in life. In the Philippines, the prevailing and dominant brand is San Miguel Beer. It has even diversified its products to serve specific market niches. While I have no qualms about the local beer. Once in a while, I would like to venture into new brews from other countries. I also allow myself some luxury sometime to swig on Heineken’s or Vodka Cruisers that are readily available in 7-11 convenience stores. But what also prevents me from getting my fill of other brews is that they come to the market quite expensive already. With my meager earnings, it would not be good to splurge on beer. Especially when it tastes the same after a few bottles.
Until I came to discover the Distillery in Jupiter Street, Makati City. Coming into the shop you would be ushered into to coolers of beer bottles of different colors and sizes. Some I can readily pronounce, some I have to slur and pretend being drunk already. Some are mild, some are strong, some have high alcohol content, 9% alc. vol! Chimay, the highest alcohol content beer that I have tasted actually tastes really good, goes down smooth and gives quite a kick that I haven’t experienced from my Red Horse.
And oh, did I mention that beer prices in the Distillery is way below than that of the bars in Greenbelt. Its no wonder, we left with a silly smile on our faces, and a little skip on our feet.
