This is the most well-known landmark where one can learn more about the domestic life in Vienna!
The starting point is Heiligenstadt, an easy to reach station on the metro U4. Leave the station at “12. Februar Platz”. When you get out of the underground the first thing you will see is a building. In fact it’s the longest continuous residential building in the world (4 tram stations cover the approx. 1 km long building). Its name: Karl Marx Hof. If you can’t believe that it is really that long, take a walk around it. It is the most famous Gemeindebau in Vienna. Gemeindebauten = residential municipality buildings.
Keywords: red, social democratic, working class. Depending on your interest in architecture you can spend some time here but we suggest to move on quickly to take in the stunning nature around the city.
