The west 4th courts, or The Cage is its known, is an odd sized basketball court in Greenwich Village. It’s smaller than regulation size and this leads to a much more physical game with elbows and everything flying about the place. Also is didn’t seem to matter where the court lines were because a few ballers ended up eating the fence and still play carried on.

This is a cool place to go watch manly men talking a big game to each other, the phrases i heard were awesome, such things as “ain’t no thang!” and a lot of mutha effing to every mutha effer that came within effing distance. Awesome swearing. Awesome players.

Nice pictures and write-up...but these are of the HighLine, and not the West 4th Street Courts.

Uh oh! Those photos are of the High Line (as @thesarahshow said!). I live literally around the corner from The Cage though and I pass by it all the time on my way to the subway! There are a lot of public courts in the area and they're all pretty cool.

Great pix, but most of these are of the HighLine area, which is quite some ways away from the W.4th courts.
