Situated at the heart of Istanbul, the scenery that you experience in Gulhane Parki is definitely wonderful. It’s the continent Asia on the right side and Europe on the other side. Do you know any other city in the world with this privilege?
Gulhane Parki (roughly translated as Rosehouse Park) is the biggest urban park and garden in Istanbul, Turkey. The park is also a very historical place because its surrounded by the magnificent Topkapi Palace, home of the sultans of the Ottoman Empire. Some of the trees in the park are more than 200 years old. Imagine, those trees saw some sultans, witnessed the fall of the Empire and the birth of Turkey and they’re still covering the park.
In the old days, there was also a zoo in the park. My grandpa used to work at that zoo dealing with camels so many years ago. That makes the place more and more exciting for me.
Recently the Museum of the History of Science and Technology in Islam opened its doors at the park. It’s a very long and narrow building with a simple architectural style. If you ever visit Istanbul, be sure that you happen to be around Gulhane Parki, so walk in, smell some fresh air and of course shoot some looms!
