A Gothy Night in San Diego

I was lucky enough to get an exclusive invitation to the filming of a local bands music video, Blessure Grave’s “Open or Shut.” It was being filmed by the talented director Adam Grabarnick, who usually shoots much bigger budget videos, but being a fan of the band offered to take the project on.

Before any shooting took place the set had to be created, which proved to be quite easy since it was being shot in a house that was already bordering living squalor. Light and fog were strategically placed and the shooting began. I had never really thought about it before, but the filming of a music video requires lots and lots of listening to the same song over and over…like seven hours of the same four minute song over and over. I can see how being a fan of the band you are shooting can really come in handy at that point. I did my best to stay out of the way and refrain from using my flashes when taking shots while the camera was rolling. When the filming finally ended there was a flood of excitement and celebration that took over the house. Mixed with the late hours of the night, or shall I say early hours of the morning a true sense of delirium was achieved.

You can view the ensuing music video on Blessure Graves myspace page as well as listen to some songs and check their tour schedule. I’ll also include the director, Adams website for those interested.
