Intended to preserve the block of buildings known as Schermerhorn Row from destruction, South Street Seaport Museum was founded by Peter and Norma Stanford in 1967. Now considered a historical landmark, the seaport is home to an upscale shopping mall which was formerly known as the Fulton Fish Market (where only fishy thing is how expensive some merchandises can be).
Visit and be transported to New York circa mid-1800s. Docked at the seaport are a few historical sailing vessels while the preserved cobblestone of Fulton Street will satisfy your appetite for shopping. Or you can just sit there by the pier and spend a lazy afternoon in the company of a good book and a good cup of coffee.
