There’s a little bit of everything here: coffee shops, restaurants, record shops, antique stores, and boutiques. “Need Supply Co.” is well known for it’s vast selection of designer jeans, “Plan 9 Music” has more new and used CDs and vynal than that neighbor of yours that collects them, and “Mongrel” has the best selection of greeting cards, odd books, and trinkets that just make you smile from ear to ear.
The Byrd Theatre is also in Carytown, so if you want to grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants (Mom’s Siam, Carytown Sushi, Mrs. Marshall’s, Weezie’s, Galaxy Diner, New York Deli, Nacho Mama’s… the list goes on and on) and then go catch a $2.00 movie, you totally can!
The streets are packed on the weekends, everyone hustling and bustling and enjoying the weather (if it’s nice outside). People walk their dogs, and many of the shops, mostly the coffee shops, put out water bowls for the dogs that pass by. Kids skateboarding in the alley, a magician doing tricks by the antique store, and musicians busking on the street. If you’re just looking to get out of the house for a little while and walk around in a colorful area, Carytown is the place to do it.
