Himeji Castle is conveniently located about 1 hour away from Osaka, and is definitely the most magnificent and important historical site in Japan. It was originally built in the 14th century, and was expanded by many of the powerful individuals from various clans over the centuries. The main tower rises up to 6 stories and its architecture is unique and astonishing. Besides the architectural beauty, the castle was also known to be the most formidable fortress for its size and well-thought structure in Japanese history.
What makes this castle even better and far more interesting than any of other castles we have in Japan is the fact that this castle has survived in its original form since the final construction of the castle- Himeji castle has never been destroyed in the wars or any of the common natural disaster like earthquake or fire.
Inside of the castle, you will find many historical artifacts and will have a chance to learn more about the history of Himeji castle. The admission to the castle is fairly cheap, and for a fee of 600 Yen (about 6 USD), you can enjoy this beautiful castle, which was also designated as the World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1993.
