La Jolla is famous for “snorkeling with leopard sharks.” This was our first time snorkeling, so we decided to book a snorkeling tour with a company called La Jolla Kayak. Their tour included 1 and half hour guide, snorkeling gear, and wet suits. On top of that, we were allowed to keep the equipment for a few hours after the tour, and all together, it cost us $35/person. I though it was pretty decent price.
At first, I really thought I wasn’t gonna make it! I kept swallowing salt water, and was panicking big time! But once I got the hang of it, it became really easy.
We were so excited about seeing the leopard sharks, but unfortunately, there weren’t many that day. I only got to see 1 shark and 1 ray. Our guide said that there was a storm which scared the sharks away. But either way, we had a blast, floating around while looking for something exciting in the water!
One thing I learned from this experience is that if you are going to snorkel, don’t rent the snorkeling gear! Just buy one! I found a set of snorkeling gear including fins for just $35 at a local store called Target after wards! I guess it was good to have a guide who can teach us what to do, but there’s not much to learn….and I’m pretty sure people can figure it out on their own. Also, I’m a little iffy about the cleanness of the equipment, especially the mouth piece! And imagine how many people might have peed in the wet suits!!!:(
