Refresh You Mind at Lake Shrine
written by sugiyamasatomi on September 3rd, 2009 , 8 comments (7 votes)

Lake Shrine is located near Santa Monica, and unlike its very busy surroundings, inside the shrine offers a very peaceful atmosphere. Lake Shrine opened to the public in 1950 by Paramahansa Yogananda whose belief was to recognize the unity of mankind. He wanted to dedicate the shrine to all religions that believe in the fatherhood of God, so a section called Court of Religions was created to pay a respect to the 5 major religions in the world.

It is a very beautiful site with countless flowers blooming. Unfortunately, not many people know about this place, but it is said that even Elvis Presley loved this place! Visitors here are very respectful and there’s no one to be loud and disturb others. People come here to relax and refresh their mind. You will find many people sitting down on the bench, meditating for a long period of time.

What makes this shrine very interesting besides the beautiful view is the fact that it is one of the very few places in the world where you can visit the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi, the founder of modern India.

Workers here are very nice and friendly, and they won’t try to convert people into their religion, so no matter what religion you believe in, or even if you don’t believe in any, you will feel comfortable and will be able to enjoy the beautiful environment here at the Lake Shrine. Oh, yeah, and the best part is, there’s no admission fee!!!! Woooooo!
