Rheinpark Duisburg

What you can find there is really a lot. I especially like just hanging around near the water, looking behind the transport ships named “Lady” or “King Rhein”. The most obvious things you can find there (because it’s the Ruhrgebiet) are old industrial warehouses and factories or in other words what’s left of them. So if you don’t like sitting in the sand near the water and bathing in the sun you can skate on a very big skate park which is built between some old left walls of a warehouse. On these walls you ca find really amazing graffiti so it’s also a pleasure to have a look at them. By reason of the near water and the very open landscape there is always a gust of wind and a lot of hang-glider fans are using it to fly a kite on the big lawns. Also the big draw bridge which is crossing the park is always a thankful motif.

At the weekends there are sometimes open air concerts or music events where you meet a lot of people. But even if there is no official music event it is not unusual that you have musical entertainment there. African or Jamaican drummers meet there for sessions and dancing and it’s really interesting to watch them singing and dancing in there foreign language. And if you are able to clap your hands you are very welcomed to join their multicultural group and make music with them.

The river, the sand, the kites, the lawns, the different cultural music and the old industrial remains create a wonderful atmosphere in the park and I always succumb to its charm. This is doubtless one of the reasons why the pictures I took there always shape up to be one of my bests.
