This remarkable landmark is situated right in the heartlands of Singapore. It was first constructed in 1907 when a wealthy trader was moved by a family coming by boat after taking a pilgrimage.
The temple is built in imitation of a Xichang temple in Fujian but it possesses a distinctly Singaporean architecture style. It is also elaborately decorated and it is a place of worship for Buddhist devotees. Once inside, the temple is painted in red and yellow – colours that the Chinese believe are lucky. It is a place rich in history, and definitely a place not to be missed the next time you are in Singapore.
