Just outside York at the Maize Maize, Elvington Lane, York. Here there is a Petting Zoo/Farm that is abundant with animals, and what better subject to Photograph than animals. They don’t pose and all shots are natural! I’ve got to say that I REALLY enjoyed this location, It was a beautifully sunny day and shooting from the hip really came into it’s element. All animals were in pens and plots that were nicely spaced, and the animals seemed very happy (and they loved human interaction a much a I loved petting them!)
The list of animals is as follows: Sheep, Chickens, Cockerils, Cows, Pot Bellied Pigs, Spotted Pigs, Emu’s/Ostriches, Calves. Ducks, Geese. The animals are enclosed in pens that are ideal for sticking your arm through and enticing the animals over (I thought they were going to eat the LC-A at one point!! Sorry LSI)
I shot using Black&White film and Kodachrome Slide film. The LC-A really captured the animals. Full of energy and opportunities for once in a lifetime shots that cannot be recreated! Although – I must admit that there is nothing funnier than seeing a pig urinate… guess I have the sense of humour of a 4 year old – I pointed and laughed and then found that I couldn’t stop, which in turn set my friend off with the giggles, and low and behold there was a four year old who found the whole situation just as amusing as I!
(P.s Make sure you visit the pig racing – its on the hour every hour and the pigs are released and the run a lap around the pen racing to get back in the other side. It was SO funny, I actually thought I was going to wee a little bit! and I forgot to shoot cos I was enjoying myself too much!!)
