Everybody loves to window shop. I even enjoy trying things on that I know I cannot afford.. or more likely wouldn’t want to spend that much money on, when I could go further down the high street and by the same without the label for less!! I ADORE shopping. I LOVE shopping, I LIVE for shopping. Whether it is shoes, film, clothes, books, films anything.. I LOVE IT!
Because I got told off (on more than one occasion) for taking images within stores (sometimes without permission) I had to find a way to combat this. So just like window shopping – examining the goods or services from a retailer without the intent to purchase at that time – I felt that I needed to do a similar thing for a location.
I’m one of these quite vain people, who upon seeing a reflection of themselves, take a step back to assess their image in any reflective surface. My apparent noseyness, also comes into play with reflective surfaces, as I tend to check out other people through these reflective surfaces as to not be so blatantly obvious! wink
Like a double exposure this really caught my eye, and I wanted to see how the LC-A would capture this with my obsession shop windows and their visual appearance. Mannequins are lifeless, but are put in the place of a human being – how can this be? What do they represent? How am I represented by a mannequin, I can’t even stand still for 30seconds!!!
Shop windows we don’t always spend the time to look at, yet we walk past them almost everyday in some cases and we take for granted. Capture that very moment of your surroundings, capture the mannequins looking at you, capture the representation of you distributed by the retailers.
They say you can’t see the world through a mirror…. They were wrong! There is a world within a mirror.
