In past years, I have gone solely to purchase the infamous ride “wrist band” and go on as many rides as I can all day; this year the cost was a mere $28, and if you start early you can really get your money’s worth! You can also find a variety of bands playing, usually one scheduled per night, as well as fireworks on the first and last day. They’ve got great food, including giant curly fries, delicious Asian varieties, and snow cones in any size and flavor you could dream of (I love the root beer but I can only get a medium at the most!). It’s a place to be social and meet friends, enjoy some food and drink, get a rush if you don’t get sick too easily, and buy some cool souvenirs.
This year my intention was solely to take pictures: the colors, shapes, and excitement of random people means that I could circle the entire grounds numerous times and end up with different photos every time. Candid shots are the best at the fair!
All cities experience some kind of carnival or another, but the Jackson County Fair continues to attract and excite every year that it comes! I can always count on a great photo session, and I know that for one week during every summer that comes, I will already have a date set with a girl named LC-A.
