Viana do Castelo is a city located in the shore of the River Lima and where it meets the Atlantic Ocean. Due to that the relation of the city with the river is a real important issue in the new developments of the all urban area. With the development a new public library was necessary, so it had been decided to build it in a very noble way, in the river shore in the edge of the city old centre.
The architect chosen had been Álvaro Siza Vieira, the most worldwide known Portuguese Architect. With that choice only the best was expected, and for me the building is better than expected. The main area is in the second floor so the first works like a frame that is creating a controlled point of view through the landscape. It is a nice place to go to read a book or to study or just to visit a place with some nice cool spaces and places to stay enjoying some quietness and the view.
