It is called Lone Rock because there is a rock standing alone right in the middle of the lake. It has a primitive campground and has many RV hookups. My experience here was very funny. When I arrived at the parking lot of the bay, approximately 2 miles from the beach, I saw the Lone Rock and many RVs and other 4WD cars parked right near the beach. I was very excited and just wanted to join in the fun.
Unfortunately, I was driving an economy size rental car, which I was not supposed to drive through sand. I heedlessly ignored the rental company warning and drove through the sand to join the party. Half a mile later I was stuck in the sand on the one way road. Luckily for me, a nice family with an RV came to my rescue and tied a rope from their RV to my car to get me out of there.
Then, I carefully drove back to the parking lot and parked my rental car. I had to walk the 2 miles in the sand road, and then I finally arrived at the beach. The next day I discovered that there was another entrance to the beach through a paved road! It was a fun experience anyways.
