See the sights on a pimpin' horse ride. Carriage that has own unique details.

There is no better way to see the sights in Vigan than to ride the Kalesa or a horse drawn carriage. Immediately after breakfast, I stepped out of the hotel and found myself second guessing where to go first. I found a Kalesa driver waiting in front of the hotel smiling as if he had been waiting for me all morning. I was prodded by the bellboy and soon I was trotting around town in style. I knew from earlier research that the price of a ride on the kalesa was fixed at 4USD/hour and depending on the kind of tourist you are, or the amount of time you spend on a site you might average about two hours going around town. I happened to consume about four hours so that pretty much screwed up my shoestring budget. But no worries here because the tour was absolutely amazing, and my carriage guy was a pretty good guide.

Wind-blown was the name of our horse, she was 25years old, which according to Mang Eming, the carriage guy, was still young for a horse.. There are also Kalesas back in Manila but I never thought of riding one. You see as a child, I got a few stitches on my head when I fell off one. I have a vague memory of the incident but I’m not 100% on the details. This might explain why I’m a little loopy. The fall must have scrambled more than my memory. This experience is definitely a must try for every tourist. Oh and don’t worry about the welfare of the animals as the government tries to ensure that they have the best of care and are well fed. The carriages themselves are made by some of the best wood and metal craftsmen in the region. Each carriage has its own unique detail and no Calesa are exactly alike.
