Located in hills behind Yucaipa/Beaumont California lies many a wonder. Starting with 4 Oaks, let these beauties sweep you off your feet!
The development of barren land in Southern California is rapid, and areas that I remember as open fields or orange groves for acres and acres, are now super markets, fast food drive-thrus, or blocks of houses with the same houses repeated on them over and over for blocks and blocks. So when living in the select areas of Southern California that are not full of houses, buildings, or businesses, taking drives to take in the untouched areas is a must. Sometimes in the midst of these aimless drives, it is no surprise to happen upon a gem. Depending on your eye, these gems could be in the form of random creeks, hot springs, hidden lakes, donkeys in the hills, or, like in this case, forgotten homes.
I happened upon “4 oaks” while driving with a friend through the hills of Beaumont California on a road that seemed lucky to be paved. The road that leads there twists and turns for miles out of town before you reach 4 oaks. This very secluded old barn house has been abandoned for years upon years from the looks of it, yet the foundation for one of the buildings states that it was built only 22 years prior to my finding it. Surrounding the house and all over the yard are tall yellow flowers. These flowers are in full bloom in the summer, and die slowly turning hard and brown in the fall. The flowers along with the dilapidated old forgotten houses give the property a very spooky feel, and makes for an amazing place for a shoot!
Places like this make me feel that although the areas surrounding us are rapidly growing, there are still exciting and interesting little Lomo getaways to shoot away at!

I would visit this place all the time if it was close by. I agree that southern California is growing out of control and places like this are becoming more and more rare. Great location.
