O Berbés: A Seaside Neighborhood

The houses, all of stone, had as principal characteristic, a few porches in its low part, forming a series of round arches, in all its length. We can see some of them. Until the first years of the 20th century, the people could see to the small ships of the sailors, with his daily fishing.
Today the things have changed very much. The port of the city has been extending, by means of successive landfills, for what now, the water of the sea is much more remote, and what 100 years ago it was a beach, today it is a little square, full of stone everywhere you see, separated from its dear sea by a street full of traffic.
It is one of the emblematic neighborhoods of the city of Vigo. Surely for it, it is full of monuments that they us remember to the sailors with his work, to the persons who have died in the sea, and even it has a source (a little fountain), always it is fill of seagulls, where there is a small heap of sand with two or three boats that they remind these last times.
And as contrast, near there, there is the modern building of the shopping centre “A Laxe”, where they hold the transatlantic ones up and the sports wharves are.
