If you want a beautiful, quiet, relaxing place to take you away from the busy streets of San Francisco, consider the Palace of Fine Arts. While this location might not offer a lot of adventurous activities, it will provide you with a sense of calm and ease.
You can take a leisurely stroll around the pond and enjoy the spectacular views of the iconic dome. You may even realize as you are walking around that a few movies have been filmed here, including The Rock and Vertigo. Be sure to stop along the way and sit at one of the many benches located around the pond, so that you can take in all the surrounding plants, flowers, and wildlife (mostly ducks and swans).
Also, make sure that you get up close to the giant columns and buildings so that you can see all the detailed carvings and artwork. You should also look around at some of the surrounding houses that line the park as I am sure they are very expensive, judging by their size and location.
A couple of notes about visiting the Palace of Fine Arts : it is very kid friendly, lots of room for the young ones to run around and have fun, parking is free at the back of the building, but get there early or you might not get a space, there is also a science exploratorium for the whole family if you have a lot of time to spend here. I think the Palace of Fine Arts is a great location for anyone to visit and relax and see a different side of San Francisco.
