Mother Farm: Meet The Cuties!

Mother Farm is a good place for a family (especially with small children) to spend a day. You can meet many kinds of domestic animals like sheep, pigs, cows, ducks, horses, llamas and even ostriches. It must be a good experience for kids.
It takes good three hours to get there from central Tokyo, and it could be a quite hectic trip if you wanna go and come back in one day. Public transportation is also very limited; there are only one or two express trains every hour.
Once you get there, get a copy of the maps. The farm is divided into several zones that accommodate different animals. The map also shows the time schedule of each show: sheep show, duck race, piggy race, sheepdog show, cow milking and horse riding (some for free, some for extra charges). I’ve never seen so many different kinds of sheep at the same time. I’ve never milked cow, which was quite fun!!. I was also amazed by how sheepdogs can control sheep. It was sooooo coooooool.
When you get hungry, there are some restaurants in the farm. You can enjoy delicious BBQ lamb after you enjoy playing with THEM in the field (you know what I mean :P).
If you’re from the countryside and very familiar with those animals, maybe this is not the pace for you. But if you grew up in the city, I’m sure you will enjoy this place. One thing to remember. Don’t miss the last bus from the farm to the nearby train station like we did. Taxi is the only way to get back and it’s quite expensive.
