Hamburg is a exciting city with a "big wide world feel", combing industrial romantics of the harbor and the urban punk scene in the "Schanze".
For no reason, i always wanted to visit Hamburg. When i finally did, all the imgained idealization came true. Hamburg, with its 1.773.218 inhabitants, glows with the charm of an old, merchant city, the gate to the world. There are two main parts of the city that need a special mentioning, the Elbe river with the Hamburger Hafen (3rd biggest in Europe) and the Schanzenviertel.
The Elbe river is 1091km long and parts the city of Hamburg. On its shores are the famous St.Pauli and Altona as well as parts of the harbor. It is a great place to hang out on a sunny Sunday afternoon to enjoy the industrial romance of cranes, huge container ships, fishing boats and the fresh satl breeze from the North Sea. The Elbe penetrates the city giving it charm and uniqueness and opens the gate to all the oceans of this world.
The Schanzenviertel used to be a wrecked conglomeration of old buildings waiting to be torn down. It was the breeding ground for the autonomous anti-establishment punk culture which squatted many of the buildings. Today it is the “in” part of the city, attracting – with its many cafes, bars and fashion – artists, students and alternatives. Its inspiring for any photographer to just wander the streets of this unique part of Hamburg.
