Great Sand Dunes National Park

Next to the majestic Sangre de Cristo Mountains in Colorado, there are massive sand dunes. When you arrive to the dunes, there is no trail or path to follow. You do see the tallest dune right in front of you and you are supposed to walk towards it and climb it if you want to get the amazing views. The sand is so warm, yet it is freezing up there, so you do need to have a warm coat, gloves and of course your favorite cam; In this case my beloved LCA was my partner in crime.

The dunes are very steep, so the work out is extremely strenuous. I would climb for 2 minutes and would have to stop 1 minute to catch my breath. Some people even gave up before climbing to the top. Fortunately, I did make my way to the top, which was worth every effort. It can get very windy at the top of the tallest dune. Since I didn’t want to let sand into my LCA lens, the shots are very limited. However, I did take plenty of pictures when I was on my way back. The trip back is more exciting because you can go dune surfing. If you ever visit, I recommend you take a plastic bag to put your film and camera inside and be ready to get sand everywhere, yes everywhere!
