Lake of Saint Cassien

Lakes are very inspiring and peaceful places. Let me show you a very nice one....

What’s great with the Cote d’Azur, is that you have the beautiful landscapes of the sea, but if you want a little change, and go in the mountains, to see forests and lakes, you just need to drive less than an hour to be in beautiful and very different places. That’s the case of the beautiful lake of Saint Cassien, in the county of Var.

This lake is an artificial one, built for electrical production in 1966, but since then the whole fauna and flora developed in a very important way so that today it’s a natural reserve for fishes, birds and flowers. And in summer you can even go bathing too!

So, we took the car and followed the highway A8 from Nice in direction Aix-en-provence, and after 45 minutes drive, we arrived at the exit “Les Adrets” which is the one to go to the lake. Then, just follow the signs who indicate the “Lake of Saint Cassien” and you’ll soon see this beautiful lake. You just need to find a place were park your car, but there are a lot of little spots to stay, to have a picnic and then go walking through the forest.

But be careful: no fire or barbecue in the forest, NEVER! First of all it’s simply forbidden because it’s a very dry place, and every summer huge parts of forests in the county of Var are burning and that’s really a pity! And secondly, it’s such a shame when you walk in this beautiful nature to discover trash some people left there after having a picnic. A piece of aluminum, glass, or anything else in this very dry place, heated by the sun in the summer can be enough to set a fire!! And don’t smoke in there too: a cigarette thrown in the nature needs a LOT of time to disappear and if it’s still a bit hot, it’s so quick to set a fire…

So please, enjoy the place but with respect and care for the nature….
