Stranded in Queenstown

It's not the most conventional of honeymoons I know but after two fabulous weeks on the road, our van broke down in Queenstown and we were stranded!

It was my first visit to the breath-taking city of Queenstown, “Adventure capital of the world”. I wasn’t there to bungy jump or ride the rapids but just wanted to enjoy the scenery with my husband. Upon our arrival, we saw land-marks and locations used in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ triology and there was an excitement in the air. Crisp autumn air with leaves turning golden brown.

Our first stop was Grove Mill winery which I highly recommend for tastings in idyllic settings. We settled into our camping ground then immediately drove to Deer Park Heights to drink in God’s glorious nature (the Remarkables are a spectacular mountain range). Queenstown has a very friendly, international vibe and is great for twenty-somethings looking for employment and a good time. We found the best Chip shop in town (Aggy’s down by the harbour), free tennis courts to have a hit around in (by the lake), a quaint village in Arrowtown and pubs to cater to everyone’s taste.

After 3 great days, we decided to head off to Milford Sound but fate had other plans…our van broke down! We found a mechanic and were disheartened to hear that it would take at least 2-3 days to fix! So more time to drink in the sights. We took the Gondola up the mountain, hitch-hiked around town and met some extremely kind hearted people even spending our final night sleeping in the garage! The experience only enhanced my view of Queenstown and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking adventure or simply a great destination.
