Porto is a city that has a peculiar topography; the old city center there is located in an upper level and develops to the river side (Rio Douro). The connection can be done using different zones and ways. And one of the possibilities is to use the stair in the zone of Guindais (Escada dos Guindais) that connect one upper zone, Batalha to the river and to the bridge Dom Luis I.
This path is nice because is a stair where you pass through a typical neighborhood where a lot a people is living there. And one of the most beautiful things is that relation from the day life usage and the view in some zones to the bridge and river. It’s not the most touristic way to go to the river side (“Ribeira”) but it can be a different one. And of course very near of the end of it there you can sit down and take a nice beer and enjoy the afternoon there.
I was really surprised in the first time that I had made that way down, going up I never tried I think it can be difficult that’s a lot of steps, but it is also possible.
