BMW headquarter in Munich was some years ago located in a futuristic building of the 70’s, and it’s still a very impressive one. But they wanted to built a new place and restore the old one. The new project consisted of a BMW museum where they could show the whole history of the constructor and in the same time having a brand new showroom of their last productions. In a sense, they wanted to show that Munich is the capital of BMW, in the past and in the future.

So, the new project was built 2006 by the architect Wolf D. Prix & the Vienna architects from Coop Himmelb(l)au. They decided to build an ultra-futuristic building made of glass and black marmor, with giant curves, massive forms allied with some very subtle and slim lines, breaking the forms in a very unusual way. You can have a different point of view on every side of the building, and it’s a surprise every time you look at it! :) Inside, its a giant showroom with all the best & beautiful from BMW, including the formula 1 racing car. So if you like architecture and/or cars, come have a look at this impressive BMW Welt to see the actual production and if you’re fan of car history, go to the new BMW museum in the old building just in front of the new one.

To go there, take the U-bahn U3 (at Marienplatz for example) and go out at Olympiazentrum (BMW Welt, intersection Georg Brauchle Ring/Lerchenauer strasse, München)
