Pudu Market is very `Malaysian` in flavour, although it is predominantly Chinese but you can find Malaysian and Indian traders here as well. It can get noisy as vendors fight for the attention of shoppers by shouting out their bargains. Besides food and clothes, you can find the most unusual items: such as pet fish, scorpions, frogs and terrapins.
South of the Golden Triangle, accessible by LRT is one of the famous and largest wet market in Kuala Lumpur. It’s a frenetic place, full of squawking chickens, frantic shoppers and porters forcing their way through the crowds with outrageous loads. Stalls here sell everything from goldfish in bowls to pig heads, cows tongues and durians in baskets. Arrive early in the morning to experience the market at its most lively and pungent.
You can recover from the sensory overload at the attached hawker court. Pudu Market is five minutes’ walk from Pudu LRT station; go south along Jln Pudu, right onto Jln Pasar, then right down Jln Pasar Baharu, passing an old temple Choon Wan Kong.
Be there early to catch the hype – it started at 3.00am and usually lasted till 7.00am. However, if you can’t make it early it’s OK as there are still many activities around till around noon.
