Another medieval castle from the region of Trentino.
The large castle complex, situated 32 km south of Trento and 37 km north of Verona, is one of the most evocative in the Trentino region, stands on a calcareous height and overlooks Lagarina valley, one of the most important communication alleys between the Mediterranean Sea and Northern Europe. It seems to settle into the hill landscape and trace its undulating outlines with big walls, five towers, the baronial palace and the imposing keep. The guardhouse, set apart in a green area, is home to a cycle of 1300s frescoes with war scenes, knights and even dragons!. Also there’s the Hall of Love with elegant decorations in the “courtly” style. The view from the main tower is amazing, you can see the entire castle and the beautiful valley. Famous guests have stayed in this keep: Longobard King Autari, with his wife Teodolinda, Emperors Charles Carlo V and Maximillian Hapsburg.
