The Hagley Road (more mundanely known as the A456) is one of Birmingham’s main arterial roads, heading west out of the city towards Kidderminster.
I often walk along this road into and out of Birmingham and one thing strikes me. The stretch that runs through my area can be easily identified by the plethora of roadside hotels! The further out of Birmingham city center the road goes the less salubrious the hotels become…
Running a hotel is obviously a dying business here as more and more of them close down, become derelict and ultimately succumb to arson attacks, followed by demolition! It’s not all doom and gloom though, on a bright sunny day, and shot from the right angle you’d be hard pressed to tell some of the establishments from those in England’s seaside resorts. Hmm… maybe that’s just wishful thinking on my part…
