Pasig Rainforest Park

I heard of the Rainforest park only recently from friends. This hidden gem of a location has a lot to offer the budding lomographer. Completed about five years ago this was an ode of sorts by the city mayor to his constituents. He envisioned an oasis for the citizens that would promote the beauty of nature and holistic health of its citizenry. I initially had doubts about the place but that quickly dissolved upon entry into the manicured lawns and sprawling trees that was bursting with lovers and families out to beat the summer heat. The place used to be quite run down but was redeveloped recently as part of the local government’s campaign to clean up the city.

What I like about this location is the sheer amount of subjects and places to shoot. Inside the park you will find attractions both natural and man made. Pools with ginormous water slides, a butterfly garden, an amphitheatre, tennis lawns, basketball courts and a even a mini zoo for kids who have to have an encounter with animals they would only see on TV. A petting zoo for the wee ones is open most of the day. And that’s just the half of it. The place is well kept and done in a bright yellow and blue color scheme, which is really pleasing to the eyes not to mention great for the camera. The place isn’t exactly the most posh place on earth, note that the park was intended for people who didn’t really have much in life but deserved a place where they could take a break from the troubles of everyday life if only for the duration of an afternoon picnic with the family.

One of the features of the location which I thoroughly enjoyed was the Skate Park and obstacle course specially since the trusty Super Sampler happened to be hungry for some awesome moves on that hot summer day. On a good weekend, you’ll catch various groups thrashing around doing tricks and gamely showing of their skills for the Dalek’s little space monkey since apparently this the only skate park left in Manila .

What a cool place with so much to do. And there is even a skatepark. I would love to take my bike there.
