Sonya's Garden

One of the most favored bead and breakfast places south of Manila is Sonya’s Garden. Built originally as a private hideaway, Sonya’s Garden was just too much of a good thing to keep secret. Soon word of mouth traveled from family to friends and friends to acquaintances that hidden in Alfonso Cavite was a symphony of nature that cozy up to wooden structures built from antique indigenous wood. It was transformed into a restaurant that served organic food grown and picked straight out of the garden to a place where weary city folk could stay and enjoy the sweet country life. Sample the fresh green salad and the just out of the oven bread. Follow through with the delightful chicken and baby potatoes and some pasta with sun dried tomatoes.

The place is strictly by reservation only, Weekends are usually packed so it’s best to come during the weekday so you could access the whole compound. You see some areas become restricted because Sonya’s places a premium on the privacy of the visitors who stay overnight. There are also short classes on a variety of things like gardening, flower arrangement, cooking, and even Yoga. If you’re lucky Sonya might even be guru of the day. When you stay over, you’ll notice that the décor is an eclectic mix of country, oriental and bohemian .I know it sounds weird but it really works for the place. Little trinkets and knick knacks are found all over the which lends the sense of organized chaos. There’s also the Garden spa which offers relief to aching muscles and some well deserved pampering for the lemming who toil through the city life. To get to Sonya’s garden, board a bus in Pasay city bound for Batangas and get off at the boundary of Alfonso before Nasugbu. From the main road board a tricycle to the garden.
