Nasik.. A Holy And Welcoming City
written by -a-l-b-e-r-t-o- on May 6th, 2009 , 5 comments (6 votes)

Coming back in Mumbai, the monsoon showers were really strong so i decided to move to Nasik a city in the state of Maharashtra in Western India and i was lucky…no rain. Nasik is an important religious center and attracts thousands of pilgrims every year from different parts of the country (one of the four Kumbh Mela, Hindu pilgrimage place). Here it flows the second sacred river in India called Godavari. A bath in the Godavari during the pushkaram period is said to be equivalent to bathing in the holy river Gange.

It is 180 kms from Mumbai. There are frequent buses to Nasik from Dadar station in Mumbai. It takes 4 to 5 hours by road. Nasik is really beautiful and picturesque with its markets and ghats on the river banks, the ringing temple bells and sadhus meditating… Nasik is not a touristic place, there are almost no tourist and so it’s really easy to spend hours talking about everything, people is very curious and I was literally stopped in the street answering many questions about my life. They were so kind and welcoming with me and I also received a dinner invitation…i will never forget that family…for a day it became also my family. I gave some of these pictures to them…in two days I didn’t meet no travelers…I didn’t feel alone…I really recommend this place…

Amazing shots in the gallery! But I like the B/W the most - which film and camera did you use for them? India must be full of fantastic locations to shoot....
If somebody want to watch a great movie about India and taking pictures I recommend "Born into Brothels" by Ross Kauffman and Zana Briski....
