In the town of West Bromwich (7 miles to the west of England’s second largest city, Birmingham) stands a big, black box with mysterious pink holes cut into it!
This controversial building kind of sticks out like a sore thumb, and has not been a popular addition to the town among local residents. It’s the first stage of a big regeneration project and hopefully will make more sense when other new buildings are completed around it.
For people who do take the plunge and venture inside, the interior is an impressive piece of work, with lots of different colours, textures and interesting details to Lomograph. However its main feature – an interactive gallery – has been beset with technical problems and is many months overdue opening…
In the meantime, it is coming into its own as a jazz music venue, and location for community arts projects. If you like weird modern architecture (particularly when it’s surrounded by dereliction!) it’s well worth a visit!
